
Michael Bommer works at BAI as Head of Sustainable Finance & ESG and Senior Policy Advisor in the Legal and Policy department. His responsibilities include supporting the association’s work on regulatory initiatives at both European and national levels in the areas of sustainable finance, investment law, and insurance supervisory law. He leads the BAI working group on Sustainable Finance & ESG as well as several specialized ESG working groups.
He studied law at the University of St. Gallen, at Université Paul Cézanne Aix-Marseille III, and at the University of Bonn. After obtaining his St. Gallen bar qualification, he worked for several years as a research associate at the chair of Prof. Dr. Johannes Köndgen at the University of Bonn. Before joining BAI, he worked as an associate at the international law firm Dechert LLP in Frankfurt in the Financial Services and Investment Management practice.
In 2016, he successfully completed the postgraduate Certificate of Advanced Studies in Financial Regulation at the Universities of Bern and Geneva. In 2023–2024, he completed the CAS Alternative Investments and Sustainability at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, and in 2025 the Impact Investing compact program at EBS.
