Specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy. Head of the Government Commission on Hospitals at the Federal Ministry of Health from May 2022 to June 2025. Previously, he served for many years as chief physician of two psychiatric departments in Berlin (Jewish Hospital and Schlosspark Clinic). Teaching and professorship at the University Hospital Dresden. Contributor to the German S3 guidelines for unipolar depression and bipolar disorders. Full member of the Drug Commission of the German Medical Association (AkdÄ), where he serves as spokesperson for the Psychiatry Working Group of the AkdÄ. From 2013 to 2017, Chairman of the Berlin Society for Psychiatry and Neurology. Extensive scientific work, particularly on the treatment of depression, antidepressants, lithium therapy, bipolar affective disorders, and substance use disorders.
