Bio

Since January 2012, Markus Gürne has been head of the ARD stock exchange editorial team and reports on the financial markets and events on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. In January 2013, he also took over the moderation of the hr editions of the ARD business magazine "Plusminus" as well as the ARD Brennpunkt /ARDextra moderation from Frankfurt. He also presents the business format "Forum Wirtschaft" for the ARD and ZDF events channel, Phoenix.

Before that, Markus Gürne was ARD's foreign correspondent for South Asia, based in New Delhi. In this role, he traveled to India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives.

Markus Gürne began working in journalism while still at school and gained his first experience in the sports editorial department of the former SDR. After leaving school, he worked there as a freelancer for several years. He studied law, political science and rhetoric in Tübingen, completed a traineeship at SWR and finally joined ARD. In 2002, he set up the stock market reporting at SWR.

Markus Gürne trained as a crisis and war reporter in London and then moved to ARD's Cairo studio, which is responsible for Egypt, Jordan, Sudan, Libya, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman and the Gulf States.

In 2003, Markus Gürne became ARD's special correspondent for Iraq, based in Baghdad. After an interlude as head of the ARD-aktuell editorial team at Hessischer Rundfunk (2005-2008), he moved to New Delhi as ARD's foreign correspondent.
