
Prof. Dr. med. Christian Karagiannidis (born 1973) is a specialist in internal medicine, pneumology and intensive care medicine and head of the ARDS and ECMO Center at the Cologne-Merheim Lung Clinic / University of Witten / Herdecke with a professorship for extracorporeal lung replacement procedures. In February / March 2020, he set up the DIVI intensive care register with a core team from the DIVI and the RKI at the beginning of the corona pandemic and has been one of the two medical-scientific directors ever since.
Karagiannidis is a member of the Federal Government's Corona Expert Council (last meeting in April 2023), the Government Commission for Modern and Needs-Based Hospital Care and President of the German Society for Internal Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (DGIIN). He is married and has three children.
