
Jürgen Kern is the Chief Sustainability Officer of KfW Group, headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the Group’s comprehensive sustainability program and ensuring compliance with all relevant sustainability regulations. He leads KfW’s Sustainability Strategy Department and coordinates the Group’s sustainability initiatives across all business areas.
Beyond his core responsibilities at KfW, Jürgen Kern serves as a member of the Stakeholder Committee of the French Groupe Caisse des Dépôts, is a founding member of the biodiversity bridge, and a member of the European Biodiversity Coalition. He actively contributes to shaping sustainable finance policies at both national and European levels.
With over 20 years of experience in international finance and corporate strategy, Jürgen Kern has held several key positions within the KfW Group. These include Director of Corporate Strategy and Sustainability at KfW Group, Head of Division for Energy in Southeast Europe at KfW Development Bank, Director of KfW’s office in Brazil, and Policy Officer on secondment to the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. His extensive expertise encompasses strategic planning, international project management, and policy development.
Jürgen Kern holds a master’s degree in international economics from the University of Tübingen, Germany. He is also an alumnus of INSEAD Business School and the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS).
