Dr. Joachim Kuhn, a physicist with additional studies in business administration and sports science, founded va-Q-tec in 2001. Under his leadership, the company evolved into a global pioneer in vacuum insulation panels (VIPs) and phase change materials (PCMs). What began in a garage grew into a publicly listed company with more than 600 employees and 11 international subsidiaries.

va-Q-tec revolutionized the global transport of temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals. At the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 50% of all internationally transported vaccine doses were shipped in va-Q-tec containers.

For its innovations, the company was granted more than 200 patents and received over 80 national and international awards, including the Technology Pioneer Award from the World Economic Forum (2013), the Tech Champion Award from the Financial Times (2021), and the Rudolf Diesel Medal for outstanding engineering achievements and innovation (2023). In 2022, Dr. Kuhn was honored as EY Entrepreneur of the Year Germany.

Together with Insook Yoo, Dr. Kuhn founded the JoinQ Family Office, through which he is now active as a business angel, entrepreneur, investor, and strategic advisor.
