He began his professional career in 1984 with a banking apprenticeship at Norddeutsche Genossenschaftsbank in Hanover. He subsequently studied economics, graduating with a degree in economics (*Diplom-Ökonom*). He then earned his doctorate from the University of Hanover with a dissertation on Italian monetary policy, spending a significant portion of his research time in Rome.

His career in the financial industry initially took him to Schröder Münchmeyer Hengst (SMH) as an investment economist, followed by positions at Crédit Agricole Cheuvreux and Kepler Equities. There, he gained extensive experience in capital market analysis and equity brokerage.

After navigating several financial market cycles, he joined UBS; as Chief Economist for Germany, he advised institutional clients worldwide on European economic policy and macroeconomics. He was a sought-after expert on economic and political developments in Europe, particularly during the Eurozone crisis.

In 2015, he joined BlackRock, where he spent over eight years serving as a leading macro strategist and capital market commentator for the German-speaking region, playing a pivotal role in shaping the company’s market position in Germany.

Today, he is the founder and owner of Macro Monkey. As an independent economist, capital market strategist, consultant, and keynote speaker, he supports institutional investors, asset managers, and companies with independent analysis regarding macroeconomics, politics, and capital markets. In addition, he regularly publishes market commentary, research pieces, and newsletters, and appears as a speaker at conferences and client events.
