Dr. med. Hartmuth Nowak, M.Sc. is the Head of the Center for Artificial Intelligence, Medical Informatics and Data Sciences (ZKIMED) at the University Hospital Knappschaftskrankenhaus Bochum. He is a specialist in anesthesiology and also holds additional qualifications in intensive care medicine, pain therapy, emergency medicine and medical informatics. He has also completed a Master's degree in Medical Informatics.

The focus of his work at ZKIMED is the digital transformation of the twelve hospitals in the Knappschaft Kliniken network and the creation of sustainable digital applications in patient care, as well as the associated administrative and organizational processes. In addition, ZKIMED conducts interdisciplinary research on various areas of artificial intelligence (interoperability, clinical decision support, biofunction analyses and AI change management).

Before becoming medical director of ZKIMED, he managed the surgical intensive care unit at the Knappschaftskrankenhaus university hospital in Bochum and carried out digital transformation projects in the field of intensive care medicine. As a Senior Data Scientist, he was also responsible for the management of routine medical data and the development of prediction algorithms based on machine learning in various scientific projects.
