
Dr. William Powell was born in Stanford and grew up in the UK. He studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Manchester and was sponsored by Nortel Networks. During his studies he won the Schlumberger Prize for the best B.Eng. Project. After two eventful years in Vienna, he returned to Manchester and completed a PhD in computer vision in collaboration with British Aerospace. At Leica Microsystems he programmed image analysis using image processing algorithms for various applications before joining Symbionics as a Technical Consultant. There he developed DECT software and is involved in various 3G mobile radio projects. In 2001 he developed 3G software at TTPCom before moving to Munich to develop LTE at Rohde & Schwarz. There he worked for over 17 years on measurement software for LTE, Device-to-Device, V2X, NB-IoT, LTE-M, 5G and also NTN extensions. He has been Head of Software at UNIO Enterprise since January 2024.
