Deputy Manager of Medical Informatics, Digital Strategy and Innovation at the La Paz University Hospital in Madrid. He has developed most of his career at the Carlos III Health Institute where he was responsible for Informatics (1993-1998), Director of clinical Bioinformatics  (1998-2010), and in recent years (2018-2023), coordinator of its Digital Health Program. From 2015 to 2017 he was Professor of Health Informatics at Weill Cornell Medicine (Cornell University) in New York. Prior to this (2011-2015), he was Chair and Professor of Health Informatics at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Melbourne (Australia). He is a Doctor in Computer Science and Medicine; Master in Knowledge Engineering and Bachelor in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He is an elected Fellow of ACMI (American College of Medical Informatics) and ACHI (Australasian College of Health Informatics). He has published more than 200 papers  (h-index 34) and coordinated more than 40 research projects.
