Axel Schäfer is one of the leading experts in the field of corporate mobility management. He has published numerous specialist articles with various specialist publishers for book and press publications and is co-editor of the new Practical Handbook on Corporate Mobility, which was published in 2024.

In collaboration with Marc-Oliver Prinzing, he defined a standard definition for company fleet management. This was further developed by Prinzing/Schäfer and also published as a definition for corporate mobility management.

Axel Schäfer is a founding member and managing director/board member of the Bundesverband Betriebliche Mobilität e.V. (until May 2022 Bundesverband Fuhrparkmanagement e.V.), which he initiated and co-founded. He is also spokesman for the FMFE Fleet And Mobility Management Federation Europe, an association of mobility organisations in Europe.
