Hans-Walter Schmittel holds a degree in Mathematics and brings decades of executive leadership experience in IT management, with a particular focus on the healthcare, social services, and financial sectors.

For twelve years, he served as Chief Information Officer (CIO) and a member of the Group Top Management at Coface, a global leader in trade credit insurance. He subsequently spent six years as Head of IT Service Management and CIO at the BBT Group, one of Germany's leading healthcare and social services providers, where he was responsible for the organization's IT strategy.

He then served for four years as CIO and Managing Director of Marienhaus Dienstleistungen, the service company of the Marienhaus Group, one of Germany's major healthcare and social care organizations, overseeing the group's digital and IT operations.

Since retiring in 2024, Hans-Walter Schmittel has been working as an independent consultant. In addition, he serves on a voluntary basis as Vice President for Health Information Management at the AHIME Association, where he actively contributes to shaping the digital transformation of the healthcare sector through strategic initiatives and industry collaboration.
