He was managing director of solar industry associations for 15 years and has been researching solutions for a climate-neutral energy supply at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg since 2009. With his research group on climate-neutral cities and neighbourhoods, he develops concepts for the energy transformation of municipalities. He is the scientific director of the lighthouse project EnStadt:Pfaff, which uses the example of the Pfaff neighbourhood in Kaiserslautern to research and demonstrate how a climate-neutral neighbourhood can be developed in practice.
