David-Ruben Thies has been CEO of Waldkliniken Eisenberg GmbH since 2008, as well as Managing Director of the German Center for Orthopedics and Meine Polikliniken GmbH in Thuringia. He began his career in healthcare as a certified nurse in Munich. He later obtained a degree in Hospital Management. His experiences during training and subsequent career stages in Munich and Suhl had a decisive impact on him. It was during this time that he developed the vision of a hospital where patients feel comfortable and are treated as welcome guests. In 2010, when it became clear that Waldkliniken Eisenberg needed a replacement for its aging inpatient facility, he seized the opportunity to turn this vision into reality. After six years of construction, the exceptional new inpatient building of Waldkliniken Eisenberg, housing the German Center for Orthopedics, was opened in October 2020. It was designed by Matteo Thun & Partners and follows the concept of “hospitecture,” creating a healing environment. The story behind the creation of the “Miracle of Thuringia,” as the Süddeutsche Zeitung described the new Waldkliniken building, is told in the documentary “Four Stars Plus****,” which was released in cinemas across Germany in April 2022. David-Ruben Thies is also co-author of the widely recognized non-fiction book New Work in Medicine, published in March 2022. The book presents, for the first time, a concrete New Work model for the healthcare sector and outlines the necessary paradigm shift in health policy.
